Thorold Civic Recognition Awards

The City of Thorold is proud to recognize individuals, groups, and organizations whose accomplishments bring distinction to our community. The Civic Recognition Program celebrates outstanding achievements in areas such as education, arts, culture, sports, recreation, and other notable fields.

Who is eligible for nomination?
  • Nominees must live, work, volunteer, or provide services within The City of Thorold or have made a significant impact on the municipality.
  • Self-nominations are not permitted.
  • Current elected officials and members of the selection committee are not eligible while serving in those roles.
  • Previous recipients may be re-nominated after in the future for different achievements.
  • Nominees must have demonstrated conduct that reflects positively on the community

Recognizes a young person who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, initiative, and commitment to improving the community through volunteerism, advocacy, service, or community projects.

Nominees should typically be between the ages of 12 and 25 and live, work, attend school, or volunteer within the community.

Honours an individual whose volunteer efforts have made a significant and lasting contribution to local sport through coaching, officiating, administration, event support, or program development.

Any unpaid volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to amateur or community sport within the municipality during the past year or over several years.

Recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and service through volunteer work that enhances the quality of life, well-being, or connectedness of the community.

Any unpaid volunteer who has made a meaningful contribution to community organizations, initiatives, or events.

Celebrates an individual whose volunteer contributions have strengthened the community's arts, culture, or heritage through leadership, programming, advocacy, or event support.

Any unpaid volunteer who has significantly contributed to local arts, cultural, or heritage organizations or initiatives.

Recognizes a senior whose ongoing volunteer service demonstrates outstanding commitment, generosity, and leadership while making a positive impact on the community.

Nominees should typically be aged 65 or older and actively volunteer within the community.

Honours an individual, group, or business that has demonstrated exceptional pride in the community through beautification, stewardship, community spirit, or efforts that enhance the municipality's image and sense of place.

Open to individuals, groups, businesses, or organizations whose actions have contributed to making the community a better place to live, work, and visit.

Recognizes an individual whose vision, leadership, and collaborative efforts have created lasting, positive change and strengthened the community through partnerships, initiatives, or long-term service.

Open to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made a significant, lasting impact on the community.

Honours an individual, group, business, or organization that has demonstrated leadership and innovation in protecting, preserving, or enhancing the natural environment through sustainable practices, conservation, education, or environmental stewardship.

Open to individuals, community groups, schools, and organizations whose environmental efforts have positively impacted the community.

Recognizes a volunteer member of an emergency service organization who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, professionalism, and service in protecting the safety and well-being of the community.

Open to active volunteer members of emergency service organizations, such as fire services, paramedic, search and rescue, emergency response, or similar volunteer public safety organizations.

Recognizes a registered non-profit organization that has demonstrated excellence in delivering programs, services, or initiatives that improve the quality of life and make a meaningful difference in the community.

Open to registered non-profit organizations serving the municipality that have demonstrated outstanding leadership, innovation, collaboration, and community impact.

How to nominate

Please download and fully complete the nomination form below. Completed nominations must be emailed to event@thorold.ca with subject line “Civic Recognition Nomination – (State award category and nominee name)”

Nominations must be submitted by Monday, August 31 in order to be considered.
