Ferry

Located in Port Robinson, City of Thorold's ferry, “Bridge-it”, is the only ferry service on the Welland Canal. The accessible ferry has shuttled people across the Welland Canal since a laker collided with and destroyed the bridge to the hamlet in the 1970s.

Operating from May to October each year, the ferry service provides a vital link for a growing number of cyclists and is a charming and memorable piece of Niagara’s cycling experience. The ferry is operated by the City with the support of Niagara Region.

Niagara Cycle Route: Ride the 8
Bicycle Route

The Bridge-it route provides cyclists with direct access between Thorold and the world-class wonder of Niagara Falls. The route follows Grassybrook Road and links to the Niagara River Recreational Trail, breaking the Greater Niagara Circle Route in two.  North and south loops come together to form a figure 8.

Bridge-it connects the west and east sides of the Welland Canal in Port Robinson and carries thousands of cyclists, pedestrians and local residents safely across the Welland Canal every year. It allows cyclists a shorter route from Thorold to the Niagara River connecting to the Greater Niagara Cycle Route.
