The Battle of Beaverdams Park is a 10-acre passive community park located in the heart of downtown Thorold. With mature trees, a swing set, and plenty of benches, the park offers a welcoming space for families to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Walking paths connect Ormond and Towpath Streets with Sullivan Avenue at the north end of the park, providing quick and convenient access to the downtown core. Washrooms are available at the back of the bandshell and are opened during special events and private rentals. Two large concrete pads are positioned within the park, ideal for food service areas, tables, or information booths. Parking is available in the lot at the south end of the park off Ormond Street.
The park is also home to Thorold’s Millennium Cairn and features several historical plaques, including one honouring Thorold’s Founding Father, who is buried at Lakeview Cemetery. At one time, the Welland Canal flowed through the centre of the park—its remnants are still visible today in front of the bandshell. Throughout the year, this historic park hosts a wide variety of community events, such as the popular Thorold Community Market, and the City’s Canada Day celebrations.
The City’s bandshell, located within the park, serves as an excellent stage for outdoor concerts, complete with bench seating on the hillside. The Thorold Reed Band performs its free summer concert series at the bandshell on select Wednesdays. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for the best seat in the shade, or arrive early, as the benches across from the bandshell fill up quickly. Before the concert, enjoy the Thorold Community Market, which offers fresh produce, flowers, and baked goods from local farmers. Local food trucks provide dinner options, and each week features local wineries and breweries in the market’s licensed area.
