Hydro One Vegetation Maintenance Program

Hydro One Forestry crews are scheduled to do the vegetation maintenance in 2026 on a transmission line that runs through Thorold. This transmission corridor is named Project 10028. It starts at the Allanburg TS (1210 Barron Road, Allanburg) and ends at the Mount Hope JCT (3071 Glancaster Road, Hamilton).

Forestry crews will be working their way down the corridor removing hazardous trees, trimming trees that are encroaching the right of way, and removing non-compatible brush growing up underneath the lines. Vegetation that will never grow high enough to interfere with the transmission lines is considered compatible and will be left. Various techniques will be used to treat the vegetation including manual brush cutting, the use of bucket trucks and off-road equipment to trim/remove trees, and mechanical grinders where the brush is thick.

Crews also use a herbicide, Garlon RTU, to spray cut stumps to prevent future regrowth.
