Flood Alert - February 18, 2026

A low-pressure system is forecast to move across the Niagara Region today on Wednesday, February 18 bringing approximately 20–30 mm of precipitation to the watershed. Air temperatures are expected to remain near or slightly above freezing during this period.

Despite recent mild temperatures, existing snowpack and river ice remains on the landscape across much of the watershed. The forecast rainfall is expected to generate runoff and increase water levels and flows in local watercourses. At this time, widespread flooding is not anticipated, however localized flooding and ponding of water in low-lying areas is possible.

Residents are urged to stay away from creeks, rivers and all waterbodies at this time due to slippery slopes and elevated water levels as they can be hazardous. Residents are encouraged to ensure drainage on their property is not hindered by blocked culverts, catch basins or ditches. Municipal and Regional staff are also advised to check local storm infrastructure to ensure that they are not blocked.

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) will continue to monitor these conditions and will issue further messages as required. Information on the Flood Status in the watershed can be found on the NPCA’s website at:

This Flood Alert is in effect until Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 12 p.m. and will be updated as required.
