Notice of Study Commencement: Rail Trail Connection

Study Overview
The City of Thorold has initiated a Schedule ‘B’ Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) study to determine the preferred connection between the existing Rail Trail at Marlatts Road and the Welland Canal Trail.

The purpose of this Study is to identify and evaluate a number of alternative trail alignments to determine the preferred trail alignment between the Rail Trail trailhead to the Welland Canal Trail.

The Study will complete the first two phases of the MCEA process which includes public and stakeholder consultation, Indigenous Community engagement, the development and evaluation of alternative solutions primarily based on the City’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP) recommendations as well as others, an assessment of the impacts of the proposed works, and identification of measures to mitigate any adverse impacts.

Public Engagement
The City encourages the public and stakeholders to actively participate in this planning process. One (1) Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held to provide the public with an opportunity to discuss the project and provide input to the Project Team. Please review the Rail Trail Connection from Marlatts Road to Welland Canal Trail (Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Study) project page on Let's Talk Thorold for additional information.

As part of a separate study, the City of Thorold is initiating the preliminary design for trail improvements to the existing Rail Trail from Marlatts Roads to the municipal boundary. Please review the Conversion of the Rail Corridor to a Multi-Use Trail from Marlatts Road to Rice Road (Preliminary Design Study) project page on Let's Talk Thorold for additional information.

To engage in the conversation, please register for Let's Talk Thorold and subscribe to both of these project pages.
