Notice of Intention: Stop Up and Close Road Allowances on Front St. N and Niagara St.

Take notice that on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the Council of The Corporation of the City of Thorold will consider the closure of two roads and notice is hereby given pursuant to By-law 97-2019. The road closures considered are as follows:

• The portion of Front Street North legally described as Part of Thorold Township Lot 8, being Part 2, Plan 59R-18137, being part of PIN 64452-0250 (LT)
• Niagara St, being PT LTS 452,453,454 & 474, PL 663, as in TH9270; PT LTS 472 & 473, PL 663, as in TH9270, EXCEPT BB93895, except part 2, plan 59Rl6709; Thorold being PIN: 64450-0186 (LT)

The Front Street North Section is a small part of the road on the west side of Front Street near the corner of Front St. and Townline (directly in front of Big Red Market). Closing this section of road will allow the City to acquire land on Townline to improve the intersection of Townline and Front St. The property to be closed is the west side of the road allowance and is 2.3 m wide at the south end tapering to 1.4 m at the north. This modification will not change the vehicular traffic but the multi-use trail will be moved towards the curb to suit the new property.

The Niagara Street Section is a small portion of Niagara St. South of Highway 58 that currently does not have a driving surface. This section of road is the remaining piece of the Niagara St. road allowance that existed prior to the Highway 58 installation. This land is to be transferred to Hydro One to merge with their transformer at this location.
