Lock 7 - Recreational Path Closure

The St. Lawrence Seaway is currently working on a project at lock 7, that will require a portion of the Welland Canals Recreational Trail to be closed this coming fall.

Construction is scheduled to start on November 18, 2019 and be completed by December 11, 2019, the trail will  be closed at lock 7 to pedestrians during this time frame.

Recreational Path Closure

We will be constructing a reinforced concrete slab and retaining wall, as well as re positioning security fencing at that location to permanently store stop logs that we use annually to de-water the Canal at Lock 7.  The existing location of the pathway will remain the same, however during construction we are expecting heavy construction traffic such as excavators, graders, concrete trucks and dump trucks in the area, and it is therefore necessary to shut down the path to ensure safety at the work-site.
