Tree Planting

As a committed partner in the Trees for All program, the City of Thorold is excited to support the next phase of large-scale tree planting and environmental restoration efforts in collaboration with the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA).

With $2.3 million in funding from Natural Resources Canada's 2 Billion Trees program, Trees for All will significantly expand tree plantings across the Niagara Peninsula watershed, contributing to climate resilience, biodiversity enhancement, and improved watershed health.

Since its inception, Trees for All has worked alongside municipalities, landowners, and conservation partners to increase tree canopy coverage and restore vital ecosystems. This funding will now accelerate planting activities, building on the program's momentum for long-term, collaborative success. The impact will extend beyond City of Thorold, benefiting communities, wildlife, and future generations for years to come.

The City of Thorold will continue to support local tree-planting efforts and work alongside NPCA to engage landowners, community groups, and volunteers in creating a healthier and more sustainable future. Additionally, it will participate in NPCA's Native Seed Collection Community of Practice for the Niagara Peninsula watershed. This initiative, delivered by the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre, will help secure a supply of native, genetically diverse, and regionally adapted tree species to support future restoration and reforestation projects.

Community members, landowners, and organizations are invited to get involved. Landowners are encouraged to stay tuned for future calls for planting interest on private lands. Organizations and community groups can also partner with NPCA by offering planting sites, hosting tree-planting events, or volunteering to assist with future plantings.
