Water and Wastewater Master Plan

Sewer Pipes

Overview

The City of Thorold, located alongside Welland Canal and proudly known as "Canada's Most Patriotic City", is home to roughly 24,000 residents spread across 21,000 acres. Recognized as the fastest-growing city in the Niagara Region, Thorold is committed to ensuring its infrastructure matches its burgeoning population. As such, the City of Thorold residents who rely on the municipality for their water and wastewater services will be impacted by the upcoming master plan updates, which will pave the way for a sustainable and optimized future for Thorold's water systems.

Water Service Master Plan

GM BluePlan Engineering has been awarded with this significant task. For the Water Service Master Plan, the primary objective is a thorough review of Thorold's existing water distribution system. This encompasses approximately 92 linear kilometres of water mains, with the aim to highlight deficiencies, anticipate future demands, and recommend vital improvements. The goal is a holistic master plan that integrates both immediate and long-term strategies for a span of 25 years. This initiative builds upon the previous City Wide Water Service Master Plan from 2019, synchronizing with the overarching vision provided by the Region's Master Plan.

Wastewater Master Plan

Similarly, for the Wastewater Master Plan, the focus lies in a meticulous assessment of City of Thorold's sanitary system. The intent is to recognize and rectify current shortcomings, forecast impending necessities, and introduce critical enhancements. By doing so, Thorold aims to present a Sanitary Master Plan which will serve as an inclusive guideline for the City's sanitation blueprint. This endeavor takes inspiration from the city's Pollution Control Plan from 2013, aiming to redefine and renew it to address the city's evolving needs.

In both these pivotal projects, the expertise, reliability, and efficiency of GM Blueprint consulting firm will be instrumental. Their role will not only ensure the delivery of these master plans but also guarantee keeping the city's best interests at heart. As we embark on this journey towards a sustainable future, we remain committed to keeping our residents informed and involved.
